Riley loves to diaper Vanilla Bean (the bear) however has been struggling with the newborn diapers. I modified the pattern from skiptomylou (http://www.skiptomylou.org/2008/09/19/how-to-make-a-diaper-for-a-childs-doll/) and whipped this one up during nap. Fingers crossed it will be easier to diaper ‘nilly bean:)

Since school is back in session we ventured to the playground with friends for some water fun. We have only been a few other times as it gets VERY crowded in the summer. Riley thought the fountains were a lot of fun(a surprise each time)! After a quick change in the care, we went to check out the children’s section in the nearby Barnes & Noble. Riley was not as entertained by the train table but picked out a book to look at instead. As we were all hungry, we stopped for lunch on the way home. Look out Daddy, they are holding hands and waiting patiently in line to order. So cute!

Today was Riley’s second visit to the dentist and I must say it went so much more smoothly than the first. She relaxed at the play kitchen before we . Keith and I had been ‘practicing’ opening wide with her and it seemed to pay off, no crying and a fabulous report. We stopped by to say hello to the butterflies and then lunch at Chick-fil-A. We even squeezed in a quick car ride before nap.

Big Day

After all the excitement of yesterday, we were planning on a morning at the Botanic Gardens with friends today. I can’t even begin to describe how much fun it is to have all of these girls together or how difficult it is to get a picture We strolled through the main garden before heading over to the Children’s garden for some running and water play. Bridges are tons of fun, as is the stream and after getting properly wet Riley loves to be ‘wrapped’ up.

We kept thinking it was awfully hot, no wonder…check out the temperature.

Turns out all that heat and fun was so invigorating Riley didn’t want to nap but was in a great mood so she helped Keith and I pick out new shoes and we even ventured out to an early dinner. Here she is trying on my old shoes and enjoying her first steamed mussels. That’s my girl!!

The Stinger is out

Yesterday we had an eventful morning that started so nicely with a visit to the Leanin’ Tree museum with friends. We toured the Western Art gallery and then went out to the sculpture garden for a snack and to peruse the sculptures. Unfortunately, Riley got stung by a yellow jacket on the tip of her middle finger. As this was her first sting and despite the ice I put on it from our lunch, it was swelling fast and into her hand (Keith later commented that she had a Michelin Man Finger), we tabled our picnic plans and headed straight to the pediatricians office and met Keith there. The best news from the doctor was that the stinger was out and some instructions to reduce the swelling and relive the pain. Riley’s right hand was in pretty bad shape but we managed a left-handed picnic in the living room after we got home. And true to her healing she was all better and ready to go this morning.

Quilty Weekend

Saturday Becky and I went down to Fabric Bliss to check out the Front Range Modern Quilt Guild Meeting. This was my first guild meeting and I really enjoyed it. It was great to see what others are working on and hear about the upcoming swaps and challenges. I left my camera home with Keith but Amy has some great pictures on her blog here. Sunday I was out picking up some extra fabric for Julie’s spectacular fishy quilt and decided to stop by Tomorrow’s Heirlooms and say hello to Jackie. Suffice it to say I pulled up just after the police cruiser. and just before the fire truck and ambulance. There was an unfortuante accident with a rotary blade, but everyone was fine in the end. Just a bit shaken up. I was just stopping by to chat and pick up some fun food fabric (a post for another day).

Railroad Museum

Trains, trains, trains everywhere. I thought we could try something new today. The railroad museum was fun but I think Riley will enjoy it even more when she is a bit older. The HO scale model in the basement was spectacularly detailed and it was very interesting to check out the engines and cars outside. We even found a lovely park nearby for our picnic.

Zoo Fun

We had an early morning and decided to change-up our original plans for the morning and head down to the zoo with some friends. I am so glad they were up for the last-minute change as we had a fantastic time. The girls had a blast and us Moms actually managed to chat.

Watercolors

I ran across a set of travel watercolors and thought we might give them a try. They were quite a hit. Check out Riley’s “boo boo sticker”, we’ve been using stickers for those not quite band-aid worthy boo boo’s.

And I can’t remember why Keith got the headset but this was too cute to pass up
